Persimmons
11/26/2024 Tuesday 40-60F Partly Cloudy
After two weeks drying in the sun, the persimmons picked from the trees are coated with a light layer of white sugar released from their flesh. They just need a few more days then will be ready to be stored in a bamboo box for the further fermentation.
Every time Michael goes out and sees this whole rack of little persimmons, he becomes salivating. He hints me often that he can try one to find out whether they have dried enough or not; but I turn him down, telling him that the soonest time we can eat them is Christmas, and I must save some for a dish which I plan to cook at our CNY Eve.
While, regarding the little pout Fuyu persimmon tree in my back yard, will it fruit next year? Even just one single fruit will make me very happy.
To me, persimmon tree is the best looking tree in winter. I love its dark bark and twisted branches, as well as its cheerful fruit--like an old man contrasts with a bunch of little playful kids, like a Chinese water-ink painting popped with a touch of striking orange color.
Therefore, I will paint a most vigorous persimmon tree laden with abundant fruit in the coldest day of this winter.
Wish me the best, and you too.
